Hotels near West Wycombe Park - Crowne Plaza Hotel
West Wycombe Park is one of the most theatrical and Italianate mid-century buildings of England. It was built between 1740 and 1800 near the village of West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, just 20 min by car away from Crowne Plaza Marlow.
It was conceived as a pleasure palace for Sir Francis Dashwood, the 2nd baronet, founder of the Dillettanti Society and the Hell-Fire Club. The house encapsulates the entire progression of British 18th-century architecture from early idiosyncratic Palladian to the Neoclassical, although anomalies in its design make it architecturally unique. The mansion is set in 45 acres of landscaped park containing many small temples and follies.
This palace has been used in several occasions as a setting for screen adaptations of literary classics such as Cranford and Little Dorrit and more recently in the television series Downton Abbey.
Take a stroll around West Wycombe Park or enjoy a tour around West Wycombe House. Put the cherry on the cake by climbing West Wycombe Hills and enjoying the extensive views across the Chilterns that it offers.
